What is Endovenous Laser Treatment?Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a minimally invasive process of sealing varicose veins from the inside. This removes the requirement for a general anaesthetic and for incisions overlying the varicose veins. A highly skilled varicose vein surgeon will carry out the procedure.
Endovenous Laser Treatment (or ablation) can be performed under local anaesthetic and does not require fasting. After the treatment, dressings and stockings are placed on the leg and the patient is encouraged to go immediately for a walk in order to stimulate the blood flow. |

Post Endovenous Laser Treatment
One week after the procedure has been performed, the patient is re-scanned to ensure that the vein has been treated appropriately and any further veins are treated with sclerotherapy at that stage.
Endovenous Laser Treatment Success Rate
All methods of varicose vein treatment have a certain failure rate. This is estimated to be 15% in the case of EVLT and this is as good and possibly better than that of varicose vein surgery.
The type of recurrence, which can occur after Endovenous Laser Treatment, is usually different to that of varicose vein surgery as there is a small possibility that the vein may re-open. However, in the case of varicose vein surgery, multiple smaller veins arise from the operative junction.

Alternative Varicose Vein Treatments
Varicose vein surgery is usually a safe procedure, whether it is done with Endovenous Laser Treatment, radiofrequency ablation or surgery. If there are many large veins present on the leg, it is often more expeditious to proceed with surgery as this allows for permanent removal.
Is Laser Treatment Painful?
Endovenous Laser Treatment for spider veins is a comfortable procedure and involves little or no pain apart from the administration of local anaesthetic.
Sometimes, discomfort is experienced during the procedure and if this happens, the laser is de-activated and more local anaesthetic is applied to the area.

Post Endovenous Laser Treatment
Immediately after the treatment, you will be sent for a walk around the adjacent Brisbane River and return to the Vein Clinic for review. Five to six days after the procedure you will undergo a duplex scan to ensure that the vein has been correctly treated.
Varicose Vein Treatment Cost
Endovenous Laser Treatment cost can vary as every procedure is tailored for the patient. All costs associated with the treatment will be discussed with you prior to your initiating treatment, and you will be provided with a written quotation.
